Russell Brand Jokes About Keeping His Baby's Sex a Secret Indefinitely: 'I May Never Look'

There’s at least one thing funnyman Russell Brand is serious about: fatherhood.

“I feel lit up by the idea,” Brand tells ES Magazine of expecting his first child with fiancée Laura Gallacher. “I’m very excited about becoming a dad and I’m preparing myself. I am just getting ready to be with a new little person and see what it is they want.”

Something he knows has no impact on how he will need to prepare? His baby’s sex.

“I might never find out,” jokes the Get Him to the Greek star, 41. “I may never look.”

The British actor and comedian confirmed in July that he and Gallacher, who is a blogger and the sister of Scottish television personality Kirsty Gallacher, were expecting their first child. The couple had dated before as early as 2007, rekindling their relationship in 2015.

Brand’s currently enjoying a private countryside life in Henley-on-Thames, England, with Gallacher, 27.

“[Laura is busy] decorating the nursery,” shares Brand, who recently lent his voice to the upcoming animated film Trolls. “Around domestic issues, my vote is often secondary … or the vote of my gender, at least, so I will just wait to see what is determined.”

Brand, who is currently studying religion in global politics at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, explains that he feels he is getting everything he needs in his new small-town atmosphere.

“There is constant conflict between the primal drives: the drive to procreate, the drive to survive, and the drive to have status,” says Brand.

“I am no longer deluded as to what may provide happiness,” he adds. “I’m so much happier over the course of the day to see one or two people and a few chickens. That’s a good way of living.”
